Bryant Street resident John Meagher was knocked backwards – literally – when lightning struck uncomfortably close to his house during the storms on Monday.
Mr Meagher was filming on his phone at about 6pm on Monday when he got more than he was expecting.
“I was outside filming my new guttering because it was overflowing and I was going to show the tradesman when he came to do the cladding,” he said.
“While I was filming, it happened - a lightning strike and explosion.
“I just reacted - I went backwards through the door and flat on my back.”
The lightning had struck a tree in Durham Street, just around the corner.

All the electrical appliances in the house were blown.
“And there was no sign of the dog - it was under the bed,” he said.
Mr Meagher suspects the lightning went through the tree – which had little damage when he checked it on Tuesday morning – and hit the telegraph pole below.
