The National Trust property on Russell Street is one of the jewels in the city’s crown but relies on the support of a committed band of volunteers to function.
Do you have an interest in historic buildings, local history, antiques, or simply meeting people?
If so, you may like to become a volunteer guide at Miss Traill’s.
The annual guide training program will start at 9.30am on Saturday, February 16 and run over four Saturday mornings.
Each of the two-hour sessions will be followed by morning tea.
The program will focus on the history of the house, its various owners and the fascinating collection of Miss Ida Traill and her family.
Built in 1845 by Reverend Thomas Sharpe, the house and its contents were left to the National Trust by Miss Traill in 1976.
The current guides are a diverse and friendly group and extend a very warm welcome to new guides. They support them by providing on-going mentoring.
There is also a chance to join in social activities and visit other properties.
