Bathurst has been buzzing for days after it was confirmed the winning ticket in Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto draw had been purchased at News On William, but the city’s newest multi-millionaires only checked their entry on Thursday night.
They found they were holding the only winning entry from Tuesday night’s national draw, and say they plan to use their massive windfall to help out their family and retire early.
Confirming their win with a NSW Lotteries official on Friday morning, the man said he had had a “funny feeling” that their luck was about to change.
“My wife actually bought the ticket and I asked her a couple of times during the day yesterday if she had checked it and she kept telling me she hadn’t,” he said.
“Last night I said to her ‘go get that ticket, I’ve got a really funny feeling about it’.
“So she went and got the ticket and we checked our numbers online and, sure enough, my gut instinct was right.
“We couldn’t believe it. We were in total disbelief.
“We read over the numbers more than five times to be sure but I still didn’t think it could be right.
“We needed this phone call to officially confirm the news but I still can’t believe it.”
The couple revealed they had been playing Oz Lotto for years but had never imagined how they might spend $20 million.
“It’s really difficult to imagine but our first priority will be to help our family,” he said.
“Then we will pay all our bills and think about retiring early and making some exciting plans.”
News on William owner Adrian Smith said they were so happy to hear the prize had been claimed.
“Bathurst has been buzzing with excitement,” he said.
“All the staff at the outlet have been holding their breath as they check Oz Lotto tickets, wondering if they’re about to break the incredible news to one of our customers.
“We’re so glad they’ve realised their incredibly good fortune and have claimed their prize.
“We wish them all the very best.”
The winning numbers in Tuesday night’s draw were 22, 38, 27, 26, 35, 4, and 19 while the supplementary numbers were 25 and 36.
Instant millionaires
IN 2018, there were 20 division one winning Oz Lotto entries across The Lott’s jurisdictions, which collectively won more than $253.7 million.
During this time the biggest Oz Lotto jackpot was $70 million on August 7, which was shared by two Division One winning entries that took home $35 million each.
The Lott’s Division One winning tally has now reached 221 so far this financial year, including 66 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
More chances to win
THERE are more chances to win big with Saturday Lotto offering an estimated $4 million, while Thursday’s Powerball has $12 million up for grabs.
Friday night’s Set for Life draw offers players the chance to win a First Prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years.
And the Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $39.4 million for draw 1211, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot is now $2.97 million for draw 10269.
