Specialist skate park design consultants Convic Pty Ltd have completed concept plans for the park upgrade, with the project estimated to cost $597,000.
Council last year received a $300,000 state government grant under the Stronger Country Communities Fund to assist in the design and construction of the skate park, with ratepayers to foot the bill for the rest.
A report to councillors by engineering services director Darren Sturgiss says Convic liaised with a number of community stakeholders in developing its blueprint for the skate park, including the Bathurst Youth Council, local primary schools and skate park users.
He said design considerations included:
- Incorporating best practice skate park design elements, ensuring that construction materials chosen are long-lasting, have minimum ongoing maintenance requirements and meet all design standards.
- Containing the design within the existing Bathurst Skate Park site at Kelso.
- Taking into account existing infrastructure, shade shelter, barbecue and existing skate elements.
- Making the design suitable for skateboards, scooters and bicycles.
- Making the design suitable for a variety of skill levels, from beginners to intermediate.
“Minor changes have been made to the original design that was presented to councillors at a working party meeting [on November 28],” the report states.
“The changes were made following feedback from the community on the concept design and relate to the provision of more shade and further refinement of a loop path surrounding the main skate park elements.”
Councillors will be asked to adopt the design plans at their monthly meeting on Wednesday night.
If the plans are approved, the consultants will prepared detailed drawings and specification documents before tenders are called in the new financial year.
