The store ‘the 4wd zone’ on Littleborne Street Kelso, next to Dawson’s Removals, officially opened on Monday, and Matt couldn’t be happier with it.
He has taken 12 months off from his role as youth liaison officer with NSW Police to open the store, and said he plans “to give it everything he has got.”
Growing up as a kid, Matt loved nothing more than going camping with his dad in his 4WD.
“Dad had an old Land Rover and he was mad keen on four-wheel-driving, that’s how its started,” he said.
While the Kelso shop front is new, his business ‘the4wdzone’ has had an online presence for years.
In 2007 Matt started learning about web deign and built and developed his own web site.
It grew and in 2014, he had what was effectively a stock warehouse at home, and in the last 18 months the business has continued to expand, working towards opening a store.
He has spent months fitting out the business and getting the stock in and got major suppliers on board including Opposite Lock, something he’s pretty happy about.
He’s also got all types of 4WD accessories, everything from bull bars to, LED Lights to fridges.
“If I haven’t got what you need I can hunt it down,” he said.
He said the feedback from customers has been great.
“People are happy to have another alternative in town,” he said, adding it was very surreal to have opened the doors.
“Not turning right into Rankin Street [towards the police station] on Monday was really strange, but I’m really hoping I can continue to do this full time.”
“It’s my dream to continue to grow the business and offer a wide range of 4WD and camping products, a one stop shop with everything in one place.”
The business, located next to Dawson’s on Littlebourne Street, is open 9-5 Monday to Friday and 9-1 Saturday.
