To mark the occasion, the school hosted a special Mass as well as a morning tea celebrating Holy Family's rich history.
Around 600 people, including past students, teachers and parents, attended the event.
“In the early days, there was a lot of dedicated parents contributing to the school’s environment, and it is a tradition that the school continues to uphold today,” Holy Family principal Kevin Arrow said.
“The school was shut for a year before it reopened as Holy Family, and to get it ready for students, the parents joined forces to clean the place from top to bottom.”
The Holy Family site was formerly the home of the Marsden Anglican Girls School, which closed in 1977 after amalgamating with All Saints College [today part of Scots All Saints College].
Holy Family opened in 1979 after the Catholic Diocese of Bathurst purchased the site.
Notable former students of Holy Family include Member for Bathurst Paul Toole, who was school captain in 1982, and Nonie Favero, who holds a special connection to a famous rock band.
“For the last 20 years, Ms Favero has been touring with the rock band U2, working as a nanny for Bono’s kids,” Mr Arrow said.
Both Mr Toole and Ms Favero were in attendance at last Tuesday’s ceremony.
Throughout their 40-year history, Holy Family has only had three principals, and Mr Arrow has held the post for the last 25 years.
