Football supporters across the country will, naturally, be disappointed and despondent about this, but the performance of former St Stanislaus’ College student Rhyan Grant is a ray of sunshine to emerge from the Asian Cup tournament as he continues to display marked improvement in his football.
Local football improvement continues, with work stepping up out at the Proctor Park football precinct in the form of the sealing of a new car park, a new amenities block, storage and change rooms as part of Bathurst Regional Council’s infrastructure upgrades.
The future for the sport is being given a local lift, but I feel we still need to look at the football education opportunities in the Central West and I don’t think this community has reached its potential.
Archie Thompson’s historic connection with the community and a Striker School concept are two examples.

An all-encompassing football academy for the region is something CSU, all schools and the local association of clubs would be well-advised to consider for the community.
Local schools in a packed curriculum have not seen the merit of giving students the skill sets and confidence to take up voluntary roles in clubs and associations to drive football into the future.
There is pressure being placed on voluntary committees across the community by busy lives and busy workplaces.
Football Federation Australia is in the process of engaging with football supporters across the country in developing a 2019-2023 Roadmap to plot a national direction for the game.
Locally, engagement and energy is needed.
