ONLY one group was successful in obtaining funding from Bathurst Regional Council to hold an event this year.
The Bathurst Child and Family Network was seeking $500 for its Family Fun Day, while St Stanislaus’ College wanted council to be a joint sponsor for its Music and Mind Festival, asking for a $2500 contribution.
Both requests for financial assistance were recommended to be refused, as council’s Section 356 Donations funding had been fully allocated already.

Deputy mayor Bobby Bourke stepped in to obtain funding for the Family Fun Day and, thanks to the support of the other councillors, the event will receive $500 from council.
While the commitment has been made, where council will fund the event from is uncertain at this time.
The Mind and Music Festival did not receive the same show of support from councillors and the sponsorship request was knocked back.
In the proposal from St Stanislaus’ College, the school said the cost of the event was estimated at $10,000 and four sponsors were being sought to provide $2500 each.
St Stanislaus’ College’s Victoria Roth met with council prior to the decision and indicated that, if the full $10,000 was not secured, the event would not proceed.
The Mind and Musical Festival “aims to produce a music process of high calibre where students and teachers alike can work together to enhance their skills and understanding of music and the brain”.
