The centre was refurbished two decades ago around the original stage and backstage facilities of the Bathurst War Memorial Hall which had opened in 1965.
The opening events in March 1999 included a gala concert, schools’ concert, rock concert, kids’ concert, Theatre for the Very Young and Humphrey B. Bear, a talent quest and the Broken Blade Memorial Service.
In the lead-up to the anniversary celebrations, BMEC is looking for photos of activities in and around the venue, particularly of the old Bathurst War Memorial Hall prior to the 1999 refurbishment.
The photos and more will be on display at BMEC from March 6 to 14, according to BMEC creative producer Kylie Shead.
Those with a photo to share are asked to email a scanned copy to kylie.shead@bathurst.nsw.gov.au or bring it into BMEC and staff will scan it.
“BMEC would also like to acknowledge the work of our many volunteer ushers, particularly Jacqui Hickey, Linda Hurford, Roger Hayman and Jane Cox, who have been volunteering with us for the 20 years the venue has been open, as well as the community who have supported BMEC,” Ms Shead said.
BMEC’s 20-year celebration will be held in City Hall on Tuesday, March 5, hosted by Kate Smith and with performances by local duo Smith and Jones, band Swing Factor and more.
Contact BMEC on 6333 6161 for further details about the celebration event.
