Undefeated on a club level through the four prior rounds, North was one of the last competitors to hit the pool under Sunday’s handicap conditions.
But he covered the 500 metres swim leg one minute faster than any of his rivals – producing a 6:34 split – and also clocked the quickest time (22:41) for the 16km cycle.
North backed that up with a strong 5km run to stop the clock at 50:22 to earn the quickest time honours ahead of Tom Hanrahan (53:21) and Jack Reen (55).
The fourth fastest overall and the quickest female in the long course event was talented cyclist Emily Watts. She covered the course in 57:17.
The quickest honours in the short course (300m swim, 16km cycle, 2.5km run) went to Mark Windsor (38:56) and Morgan Watts (48.54).
