The highly anticipated NSW Seniors Festival is on once again, running from Wednesday, February 13 until Sunday, February 24. Reaching up to 500,000 seniors per year, the festival’s celebrations are designed for anyone over the age of 60, Indigenous Australians over the age of 50 and for people over the age of 50 who have a lifelong disability.

Organised by the Department of Family and Community Services, the aim of the festival is to celebrate the role seniors play and the contributions they make to the NSW community. Throughout the festival there are many local and regional events including a comedy festival, expo and the Premiers Gala Concert.
Each year community groups, businesses and government bodies help to organise and run hundreds of events across the state and Bathurst is no exception. The Bathurst Seymour Centre will be hosting two events for the Seniors Festival – the Bathurst Seymour Centre Open Day and an Aged Care information session.
On Wednesday, February 13, the Seymour Centres “Big Day out” will run from 10am to 2pm. It will be a day full of entertainment, refreshments, enjoyment and great company. There will also be lots of prizes, including a lucky door prize. Free for seniors to attend, the day is guaranteed to be lots of fun.

On Monday, February 18 they will also be hosting a free information session titled “What’s in it for you”. Hosted at the Bathurst RSL Club from 10am to 12pm, this is a great opportunity to find out how the new Aged Care System works, find out more information and ask any questions that you might have.

The Bathurst Neighbourhood and Information Centre (BINC) will also be celebrating the NSW Seniors Festival and will hosting a Safety Awareness Morning Tea on Wednesday, February 13. Starting at 10.30am, the session will demonstrate hand rails, safety ramps, anti-slip surfaces and also have builders on hand to explain how things work.
BINC manager, Jean Fell, said that the morning tea is free and there will be lots of treats and refreshments available along with plenty of information. “It will be a great event that demonstrates even the small thing can help make seniors lives much more safe and comfortable”, she said. “We have a team of builders here at the centre that provide home modification and assist the elderly in making their home more user friendly”.
