The cloud currently sits over Oberon, Bathurst, Lithgow, Mudgee, Dubbo, Gilgandra, Walgett and Brewarrina, Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke said.

“It’s still aligned in a north-west to south-east direction,” he said.

“At times visibility has been dropping to five kilometres, but it’s probably thicker in some areas than others

“The cloud is gradually moving east.

“It’s already moved east from Cowra, Forbes and Condobolin and it’s about to clear from the Parkes area.”

Mr Dutschke said that the dust cloud will gradually clear from the Central West during the next several hours.

“It’s been windy enough to keep most of the dust off the ground,” he said.

Mr Dutschke said while a strong front passing through parts of NSW has helped pick up the dust and move it across the region, not all dust is from our state.

“The origin of this dust, well some of it’s come form the north-east of South Australia that’s where it’s started, but it’s picked up more form NSW as it’s come along,” he said.

“It’ll be in the South Island of New Zealand later today.”

With ongoing drought conditions Mr Dutschke said more dust clouds were expected, however the next week or so looked like it may be dust-free.

“It doesn’t look like any dust being as bad in the next week and a half,” he said.
