The 18-year-old driver died at the scene after losing control of the car on the Eleven Mile Drive about 1am on Wednesday.
Chifley Police District crime manager Detective Inspector Luke Rankin said the teenager was driving his Mitsubishi Lancer in an easterly direction along the Eleven Mile Drive.
About 50 metres past Thomas Drive, it appears the driver failed to negotiate a right hand bend in the road, with the car leaving the roadway before rolling and hitting a fence.
Detective Inspector Rankin said there were no other vehicles involved in the crash and police were in the process of preparing a report for the coroner.
While the investigation into the fatality is in its infancy, Detective Inspector Rankin said police were "looking at a number of factors".
Among the factors being looked at by police are the state of the vehicle and the cause of the crash.
Detective Inspector Rankin said it was too early to comment whether speed, fatigue or alcohol were factors in the fatality.
As of late Wednesday, police had not released the name of the teenage victim, only confirming he came from Bathurst. However, on social media, the victim was remembered as young man with a big heart with a wonderful future ahead of him.
Head of St Stanislaus' College, Dr Anne Wenham, said the teenager, who had previously been a student at the school, was "a well respected and fine young man".
In her Facebook post Dr Wenham said: "In his younger years at the college he would have been seen as a lovable rogue; in his senior years he grew into a fine, respected, admired young man with a big heart and a wonderful future ahead of him."
Dr Wenham said the teenager's unselfish outreach to others was recognised when he was awarded an ISA Medal for sportsmanship in 2017.
