Member for Bathurst, Paul Toole, MP, announced funding of $294,118 for major upgrades to the Perthville Village Square, which alongside a contribution from Bathurst Regional Council of $250,000 will see significant improvements to the area.
Multi-purpose sports courts and a fitness station will be installed on a parcel of land which is centrally located in the village as part of the upgrade.
The funding comes from the Stronger Country Communities Fund and comes as a result of the Perthville community expressing keen interest in this type of development which will give residents free outdoor facilities which promote good health and wellbeing through exercise.
Mr Toole said the sports courts have been identified as an important component of a larger proposed recreational development in the village.
“The Village Square currently consists of open space with two tennis/basketball courts in poor condition located on the southern side of the site.
“These improvements however, are part of a bigger picture development being envisaged for the precinct including toilet amenities, picnic facilities, and a nature play area.
