Regular skipper Joey Coughlan is absent this weekend, with Baker given the task to lead his teammates in a must-win match for Redbacks.
Baker, who's previously played for West Tamworth in Tamworth District Cricket Association first grade, is keen to take on his temporary role.
"It's pretty exciting and I'm pretty honoured, because it is my first season," he said.
"I just hope I can do my best for the team and hopefully we can get the win on the weekend."
He said he's been impressed with what he's seen so far in the Bathurst competition this season, comparable to playing in Tamworth.
"It's pretty similar. Back home we had a pretty competitive competition and few more people back home, in terms of population, but it's very comparable," he said.
"Bathurst has been pretty competitive so far. I'm pretty happy with the standard."
In Redbacks previous match against St Pat's Old Boys, Baker hit a total of 29 before being dismissed, his personal high score for the club.
All up, Baker has scored 45 runs for the club, for an average of 11.3.
After missing the first day of action last Saturday because of wash-up, Redbacks missed out on their chance to snatch an outright win against a struggling Bulls outfit.
Unless something miraculous happens, it seems unlikely that Redbacks will get an outright win and maximum points.
"Obviously we were looking for the outright win [last Saturday], but the weather didn't help us, Baker said.
"This week, hopefully we can get the W and put us in a good position for the finals.
"We were expecting a good game [last week]. Some of the boys have told me [Bulls have] got some talented cricketers. Hopefully we just do our best and get the win. That's the only thing we're focused on."
It's a must win match for Redbacks, as they are currently sitting in fourth, a position that would've given them a finals spot last season, but because ORC dropped out before the start of the 2018-19 season, the play-off allocation was dropped from four teams to three.
With ladder leaders Rugby Union up next week, followed by the bye a week after, a win is a necessity for Redbacks, as they try to chase down Rugby Union, St Pat's Old Boys and City Colts, in first, second and third respectively.
With Coughlan out for Redbacks, Jay Cleary comes into the fold.
Saturday's game will be played at Bathurst Sportsground, with play getting underway at 1.30pm.
