“Raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention is extremely important in rural areas, especially with the ongoing effects of the drought,” event coordinator Rose Hancock said.
“Men in particular tend to keep their true feelings to themselves and with this event, we want to promote the importance of starting conversations.”
The event is being run in partnership with the Bathurst and District Hobos social motorcycling club, and will also be raising money for local mental health charities.
“We’ve had some really generous sponsors in previous years and at past events, we’ve managed to raise upwards of $6000 for charities,” Ms Hancock said.
The event will see riders meet at the Bathurst Sportsground and journey to Mudgee via Hill End.
“There’s over 40 Black Dog Rides across Australia, and we’re just one of many groups set to hit the road for charity,” Ms Hancock said.
The Bathurst Black Dog Ride One Dayer will take place on Sunday, March 17.
