Twenty years ago the centre was refurbished around the original stage and backstage facilities of the Bathurst War Memorial Hall, which had opened in 1965.
The opening events in March 1999 included a gala concert; schools’ concerts; rock concert; kids’ concert with Theatre for the Very Young and Humphrey B. Bear; a talent quest and the Broken Blade memorial service.
BMEC is looking for photos of activities in and around the venue, particularly of the old Bathurst War Memorial Hall prior to the 1999 refurbishment.
These photos – and more – will be on display at BMEC from March 6-14.
If you have any photos you would like to share, please email a scanned copy to kylie.shead@bathurst.nsw.gov.au or bring them into BMEC and we will scan them for you.
Celebration
ON Tuesday, March 5, BMEC will celebrate its 20-year milestone with a show in the City Hall, hosted by Kate Smith.
There will be performances by local duo Smith & Jones, the wonderful Swing Factor and more.
For more information, contact BMEC on 6333 6161.
Art of Giving
THE Bathurst Regional Art Gallery Society (BRAGS) was established as a fundraising organisation for the gallery in 1969.
In its 50 years of continual support, BRAGS has contributed to the purchase of more than 150 works for the permanent collection.
The Art of Giving exhibition, curated by the gallery guides, celebrates the contribution BRAGS has made to the cultural life of Bathurst and highlights the important role fundraising organisations play in supporting the arts in regional Australia.
