Holy Family Catholic Primary School Kelso students Tahlia O'Connell and Isla Fitzgerald are two of the school's swimmers that starred at the recent school carnival, but will now be looking to back up their strong performances at the Eastern Region Carnival.

There they will be vying for honours to move through to the Diocesan Carnival, on March 1, at Dubbo, where competition is expected to be extremely competitive. 

"Tahlia and Isla work very hard at their swimming and they are both great representative students at Holy Family School," principal Kevin Arrow said. 

"Having set new school records they should have a successful day in the pool at Cowra. We wish them well at Cowra."

At Dubbo, swimmers from around the Diocese will be vying for a position in the Diocesan team which will progress to the 2019 NSW Catholic Primary School Polding Swimming Carnival to be held at the Homebush Olympic Pool on March 20.

O'Connell recently set seven new swimming records - in 12-year-old girls 100 metre freestyle (1.09.63 seconds), 50 metre freestyle (31.53), 50 metre breaststroke (42.90), 50 metre backstroke (41.37), 50 metre butterfly (35.34), medley (3.03.09) and four times 50 metre (2.55.31). 

Fitzgerald also set a new school record, for eight-year-old girls 50 metre freestyle (47.03).
