The roundabout upgrade has come under fire from business owners who say they are suffering financially, with some saying they should have engaged private contractors who could have worked 24-7 and had the job completed faster.
Erin Brown, manager at Bake Table and Tea, recently spoke about how the business had been adversely affected by the road closure, and suggested the work could be done at night, to make it easier on businesses.
Other business owners in the area also raised the suggestion, but council stood firm saying "night work comes with added complications."
Mayor of Bathurst, Graeme Hanger, said council is conscious of the impact on businesses and is aiming to have the work completed as quickly as possible.
In the latest drama surrounding the roundabout, Advanced Hearing Solutions director Matthew O'Neill said he came to work Monday week ago to find steel barricades one metre from the front door of his business, and was told the footpath in front of his shop was about to be pulled up.
The fence was so close to his front door, when one client pulled up on his mobility scooter to come in and see him, the client couldn't turn into the shop, so Mr O'Neill had to talk to him outside on the footpath.
Councillor Hanger said in an attempt to fast track the upgrade, council's work schedule at the site includes extended work hours Monday to Friday as well as Saturday, adding council did not engage a contractor as "we have suitable and qualified staff to complete the works in house."
"While working at night is an option it comes with added complications not least of which include the obvious noise to residents," he said.
He said council would only consider bringing in contractors on similar projects "if we did not have the resources available at the time to do the works ourselves."
