The Bathurst resident was diagnosed with cancer just over two years ago and has been courageously fighting that battle ever since with the support of his family and friends.
Hoping to give him a gift he would cherish, his sister Merridy Connor got in contact with councillor Ian North to see if he could help find him a jersey signed by his favourite sporting team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Cr North, as it turned out, had the right connections to get the ball rolling on the idea.
"I spoke to Brian [Sewell] and asked if he knew someone and he did," he said.
Mr Sewell contacted Kevin Maloney, the executive chairman of Tulla Group, who was able to source a jersey signed by all the current players of the team.
The jersey was presented to Mr Hollis on Wednesday afternoon at Country Coffee, where he was joined by his family.
"It is a really nice gesture that Ian and Brian have organised," Mr Hollis said.
In addition to the receiving the jersey, Mr Hollis also had the opportunity to meet Australia's first astronaut, Dr Paul Scully-Power AM, who is in Bathurst for another engagement.
Mr Sewell said he was "very happy and absolutely delighted" to have been able to help get a jersey for Mr Hollis.
The gift of the jersey was not the first kind gesture directed to Mr Hollis since his cancer diagnosis.
As he is a Holden fan, he was provided with a unique car racing experience two years ago.
