A MAN who told police he'd drunk 10 cans of beer before recording a blood alcohol reading almost four times the legal limit has been convicted of drink driving.

David Leslie Campbell, 60, of the Upper Turon Road, Sofala, appeared before Bathurst Local Court charged with high range PCA.
Police facts handed to the court outlined how at 6.55pm on November 11 last year, Campbell, a sheep farmer, was stopped by police at Hill End.
Campbell was driving a white Mitsubishi Triton west along Hill End Road, Hill End.
He was stopped by police and as they spoke to the accused they could detect a strong smell of intoxicating liquor.
Campbell was told he had been stopped for a random breath test and was asked to produce his driver's licence, which he did.
He was asked if he had consumed any alcohol to which he replied he had drunk beer and was "definitely over the limit". His last drink was nearly an hour earlier.
Campbell was issued with a formal caution and subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.
He was placed under arrest and taken to Bathurst police station where a breath analysis returned a reading of 0.196.
Campbell told police he consumed 10 cans of full strength VB beer. He said his first drink was at 11am and last was 6.05pm. Campbell told officers he had not eaten anything during this period.
Campbell attended the Traffic Offenders Program following his arrest and tendered references to the court which outlined how he was a reliable, honest and hard-working person. His referees spoke of the accused as being very upset and embarrassed by the charges against him.
Employers said he needed a licence to work as he works at a number of properties.
Campbell was convicted and placed on a Community Corrections Order with supervision.
He was disqualified from driving for six months and placed on an Interlock order for 24 months.
