The Majellan Bowling Club was again busy with everything bowling, this is how the week that was:
Tuesday, March 5 Social Games
Rink 3: Barry O’Keefe and Kevin Howard (both swing bowlers), Barry Quigley and Ron McGarry were in the running from the start against Barry O’Keefe and Kevin Howard, John Clark and Alan Clark, however, the wheels fell off for Team McGarry being stuck on ten points for five ends from the 13th end. Team Clark taking the win 27-13.
Rink 4: Gus Thurgood and Noel Whitney were out of the gates early against John Bosson and Tony Hogan with a handy lead of six points after five ends. It was from here that Team Hogan took charge and controlled, what was a close game in the end, to come up winners 26-24.
Rink 5: Terry Clark, Ian Warren and Paul Kennedy started strong against Frank Farrell, George Ballard and Hugh Brennan with a 7-0 lead after three ends.
Team Brennan came back into the game to take the lead 13-7 after 9 ends, but this was the last time Team Brennan saw the lead to go down in the end 22-18.
Saturday, March 9 Social Games
Rink 2: Frank Farrell, Ted Parker and Alan Clark had a close fought match against Dick Graham, Max Elms and Scott Chapman. With the back end of the match being very tight with the scores tied on the 18th and 20th ends. Team Clark coming away with the win 16-15.
Rink 3: Terry Clark, Hugh Brennan and Ken Hartwig never faulted from the beginning through to the end against Darryl Shurmer, Greg Hallet and Kevin Howard.
Team Hartwig were irrefutable in the win over Team Howard who failed to make the ends count and ended in the ‘Shame File’. Team Hartwig running away winners 37-8.
Rink 4: John Bosson and Paul Kennedy were on the back foot against Mick Tremain and Mick Simmons who controlled the match from the start. Team Simmons were clinical in the defeating of Team Kennedy with another big score 34-13.
Rink 5: Rink Winners and Jackpot winners: Gus Thurgood and Tim Pickstone had a battle against Trevor Sharpham and John Hobson.
With Team Pickstone taking the early lead they looked for all money to be in the driver’s seat, however Team Hobson came back into the match from the 11th end to take charge and get the win 25-13.
Sunday, March 10
No: 6 Pennants Teams matched up against the Bathurst City Bowling Club, at the Bathurst City Club, this is how it played out:
Rink 4: Majellan’s Peter Drew, Kevin Howard, Ken Hartwig and Allan Clark had to pull out all the stops against K. Miller, W. Townsend, L. Dobbie and R. Bourke.
This was a tough match for both sides with the score tied after the sixth and 20th ends. Team Majellan taking the win on the last end 17-15.
Rink 5: Majellan’s Barry Quigley, Hugh Brennan, Noel Whitney and Tim Pickstone started the match with a good 9-1 lead after six ends against R. Hollebone, R. Cambey, P. Reece and G. Waters.
From the seventh end Team Waters took control and came back into the game and took the lead 10-9 on the seventh.
With the scores tied on the 19th 18 all, it was anyone’s match, but with an impressive 5 point win on the 20th end for Majellan Team Pickstone took the win 23-19
Rink 6: Majellan’s Trevor Sharpham, Kerry Connors, Garry Cameron and Geoff Densmore were another team with an early lead against J. Fulton, J. Smith, D. Oxley and R. Noonan after nine ends 12-5.
Bathurst City fought back and gain control and the lead of the match up to the 16th end. Team Majellan then won six points on the last five ends to take the win for Majellan 20-16.
The Majellan Bowling Club winning the Match 60 to Bathurst City 50. A great effort from all bowlers saw a fantastic outcome for the club.
No: 4 Pennants Teams battled it out against Orange Country Club at Orange, these are their results:
Rink 5: Majellan’s Anthony McNamara, John Hobson, Mick McDonald and Peter Naylor had a lucky win over Orange CC P. Griffith, P. Dyhim, N. Seton, and G. Seton. The Majellan team winning 11 out of ten ends and winning the match 21-20.
Rink 6: Majellan’s Dave Josh, Reece Harvey, Glen Urza and Craig Bush had a comfortable win this week with 14 to 7 end wins over Orange CC R. Robinson, J. Taylor, S. Garside, and G. Robinson to take the match 31-12.
Rink 7: Majellan’s Butch Stevens, Tony Urza, Tiger Smith and Craig Townsend had a rough day on the green and were unlucky not to take the win over Orange CC W. Power, G. Fletcher, G. Carthew and P. McGarity. Orange CC winning 12 to 9 end wins and took the match 19-16.
Majellan Bowling Club winning the round 68 to 51.

BATHURST CITY
Bathurst City – By Sarge
Wednesday jackpot bowls saw 26 Bowlers take to the green, nine of those were visitors from Blayney. Welcome fellas.
Game 1: John Martin and Bob Lindsay 27 defeated Kevin Miller Gordon Death 17.
John and Bob got the jump and led 13-3 after seven ends. Kevin and Gorden fought back and trailed by three 16-19 after 14 ends.
John and Bob won six of the last seven ends to close out the game. Ends to John and Bob 14-7
Game 2: Ian Cunningham and Jim Grives 25 defeated Trevor Kellock and Ron Cambey 20.
Ian and Jim Led 10-6 after seven ends and 21-12 after 14 ends.
Trevor and Ron scored eight shots to four over the last seven ends but the six and five that Ian and Jim picked up earlier in the game proved to be the difference. Ends went to Ian and Jim 13-8
Game 3: Phillip Murray, John and Denis Oxley 17 defeated Graham Hobby, Peter Ryan and John Archer 16.
The Archer team led 7-3 after seven ends. Oxley’s team fought back and levelled the score 8-8 after 12 ends.
Team Archer again hit front and led 15-13 after 18 ends. Oxley’s team finished the stronger picking up 2 shots on the last end to win a tight game. Ends to team Oxley 12-9
Game 4: Ray Donlan, Pat Duff and Allan Clark 22 defeated Ron Hollebone, John McDonagh and Gordon Holland 21.
The Holland Team led 8-4 after seven ends and 15-10 after 14 ends. Team Clarke scored 12 shots over the next 3 ends to set up the win. Team Holland scored 6 shots over the last four ends but fell I shot short. Ends to team Holland 12-9
Game 5: was called off after 11 ends. Nev Kable. Rod Luck and Bryan Bromfield seven defeated Robert Miskell Robert Thompson and Ray Noonan. Ends were the same as the score 7-4 to Team Bromfield.
Friday Jackpot bowls saw one game of Triples.
John Martin, Kevin Miller and Norm Hayes 15 defeated Barry McPherson, Paul Rodenhuis and Ray Noonan 12.
Team Noonan led 6-4 after seven ends and 10-7 after 12 ends.
Team Hayes finished the stronger scoring eight shots to two over the final six ends. The ends were shared 9-9.
The Mid Week Jackpot was not won.
Saturday
Game one B singles
John Mc Donagh 31 defeated Arch Ledger 18. Marker was Bob Foster.
John Led most of the way in this games winning 20 ends to 12. Scores were level 10-10 and 11-11 Arch hit the lead for the only time on the 16th end.
Game two B singles
Bruce Rich 31 defeated Bob Foster 12. Marker John McDonagh.
Bruce Led all the way in this game winning 16 of the 26 ends. Bruce got a great start and Bob just could not make up the leeway after a poor start.
Game three B singles games three
Luke Dobbie 31 defeated Jack Smith 18. Marker Paul Rodenhuis.
Scores were level at 7-7 after eight ends. Luke led 18-14 after 20 ends and didn’t allow jack back into the game winning eight of the next ten ends for a solid victory. Luke won 18 ends to 12.
Game four B singles
Brian Burke 31 defeated Son-In-Law Joe McCurry 27.
Scores were level at 5-5 after seven ends, 9-9 after 11 ends 15-15 after 17 ends and 17-17 after 20 ends.
Brian won the ends 19-16 in a great game of bowls. I believe Joe is still in the will. Kevin Miller was the marker
Game five B singles
Denis Oxley 31 defeated Ron Cambey 23. Marker Hans Hummelshoj.
Ron Had the better of the start the led 7-0 after five ends Denis levelled at 9-9 after ten ends and then never let Ron Back into the game until the 25th end.
Ron scored ten shots over four ends to trail 23-27 after 28 ends however he could not maintain the run with Denis scoring four shots over the next three ends for a good win. Denis won the ends 18-13.
Game six A singles
John Archer 31 defeated Ray Fitzallan 25. Marker Norm Hayes.
John led 7-0 after five ends and 23-8 after 17 ends and looked headed for a comfortable win.
Ray fought back well to trail by just three shots after 29 ends. John closed the game out with three singles to win another close game. Ends went to John 19-13.
Game seven A singles
Phil Gray 31 defeated Ray Noonan 26. Marker Mick Sewell.
Phil started well and led 12-6 after 13 ends. Ray fought back and levelled 20-20 after 28 ends and 25-25 after 35 ends. Phil then won three of the next four ends to win a close game. Phil was never behind and won the ends 22-17
Game eight A singles
John Finlay 31 defeated Jim Grives 20 Marker Neville Townsend.
John got the early jump and led 8-4 after 18 ends. Jim trailed By four with scores 16-20 after 21 ends. John then won four of the next six ends scoring 11 shots to four to close the game and won the ends 15-12
Game nine social triples
Paul Reece led Anthony Morrissey and John Fulton to Victory over Bob Lindsay, Grant Brunton and Phil Murray 25-13. Team Reece led all the way in this game. Scores were 9-4 after seven ends.
From 16-9 they consolidated the victory by scoring eight shots over the last four ends. Team Reece won the ends 14-17
Game ten social triples
This game saw ten of our junior bowlers from the Bathurst real estate development sound playing.
Brodie Carter and Brendan Maggs. Both acquitted themselves very well showing great skill and potential.
Both these juniors have won scholarships from Bathurst City Men's Bowling Club. Well done. Ron Hollebone, Brodie Carter and Bryan Bromfield 27 defeated Arch Ledger, Brendan Maggs and Ian Schofield 13.
The Bromfield Team led 9-3 after seven ends and 20 –8 after 14 ends and cruised to victory. Ends to Team Bromfield 12 – 8. Well played Brendan and Brodie.
Sunday saw the second round of Pennants No 2’s game was postponed.
No 6 played Majellan at Bathurst City and were soundly beaten 10-0 60 shots to 50. Ends33-30.
Ron Hollebone, Ron Camber, Paul Reece and Geoff Waters 19 Tim Pickstone 23. Ends to Bathurst City 12-9
Kevin Miller, Neville Townsend, Luke Dobbie and Bobby Bourke 15 Allan Clarke 17. Ends to Majellan 12-9.
John Fulton, Jack Smith, Denis Oxley and Ray Noonan 16. Geoff Densmore 20. Ends to Majellan 12-9.

No 7 Pennants played Orange Country Club and won 9-1 62 shots to 56. Ends to Country Club 33-30.
