The World's Greatest Shave is one of Australia's biggest fundraising events, and has seen millions of Australians over the last two decades raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Perthville Year 6 students Ashleigh Peterson, Ryan Watson, William Moorhead, Dusty Wyrzykowski and Noah Soetens each have their own reasons for participating in the cause.
"I'm doing the World's Greatest Shave because I want to raise money for those fighting leukaemia and their families," Ashleigh said.
"One of my friends currently has leukaemia, and me and my friends wanted to hold our own event here at school," Ryan added.
Some reasons for participating take on a more personal tone, with William deciding to participate in order to honour his grandfather, who passed away from leukaemia.
"My grandfather was beloved to me," he said.
Dusty's reasoning was more of a means to charitably part ways with his long hair, which he has been growing since Year 4.
"I have to cut my hair for high school anyway, so why not do it for charity," he said.
As for Noah, who is a school leader, the motivation was simply to try something new.
"It's a great opportunity to show support for those who have been affected by leukaemia," he said.
The students set a collective fundraising goal of $2000 and to date, they have raised $2905.
Perthville assistant principal Kurt Dickson said the students have shown outstanding initiative in getting the event off the ground.
"The students have organised the upcoming event themselves, and they have shown an immense amount of courage in committing to this initiative," Mr Dickson said.
"Coming from children who are only 11 and 12 years old, they have done a remarkable job."
