This time McDowell is chasing success in the two-year-old colts and geldings feature - the Gold Crown - with Pikarso.
While McDowell is a two-times Group 1 winning driver, since he guided Loves A Dance to victory in the 1987 fillies Gold Tiara feature he has not tasted success in one of the Bathurst carnival's major events.
He will be hoping that changes with the Artistic Fella x The Femme Fatal gelding he will steer for Mulgoa trainer Kerry McDowell.
Pikarso has just one prior start, coming from barrier five on debut to post a handy 5.8 metres win in a 1:58.5 mile rate at the Bathurst Gold Crown Paceway.
He showed good potential as he ran away from his rivals down the straight.
He has drawn the same barrier for Saturday's 1,730 metres Gold Crown Heat which is set for 7.17pm.
