A MAN who stole a wallet has been convicted for theft and the possession of a prohibited drug

Matters against Mark Morgan, 31, of McPhillamy Avenue at Gormans Hill, were heard in the Bathurst Local Court earlier this month.
Morgan was charged with larceny and possession of a prohibited drug.
Police facts tendered to the court outlined how on December 16 last year, Morgan stole a black wallet from Storm Riders and the following day when police arrested him he had meth in his property.
The court heard how at around noon on December 16, Morgan entered Storm Riders in the Bathurst City Centre and looked at various items.
While speaking to the store attendants, he went to the rear of the store and picked up a $25 black wallet.
Morgan then walked over the a clothing rack containing men's shirts, concealed the wallet and ripped off the price tag, leaving the price tag in the clothing. He placed the wallet in his trousers pocket and walked out without paying for it.
The theft was captured on the store's CCTV which was provided to police.
On the following day, December 17, the accused was found in a park in Rocket Street. Police approached him and he was arrested in relation to the theft. He was searched and the stolen wallet was found in his possession.
Morgan was arrested and taken to Bathurst police station. While searching the accused's property, police foundd a small plastic resealable bag containing meth. In the accused's bumbag they found drug paraphernalia consistent with using meth.
The accused sought advice from Aboriginal Legal Service and was offered the opportunity to be interviewed, which he declined.
On the larceny matter, Magistrate Follent convicted Morgan and placed him on an eight-month Community Corrections Order.
On the possession of a prohibited drug, Morgan was also convicted and placed on a Community Corrections Order by Magistrate Follent for eight months with supervision.
