MORE than 1800 homes have been blacked out north of Bathurst after a thunderstorm rolled across the region on Saturday evening.

According to the Essential Energy website, a total of 1873 homes have been left in darkness around the Mount Rankin, Billywillinga, Duramana, Freemantle and Hill End areas.
Crews are currently investigating the outage with no indication yet about when power might be restored.
The thunderstorm hit the region about 7pm with the Bureau of Meteorology's official weather station at Bathurst Airport recording wind gusts of up to 50km/h.
It was the second day in a row that the region has been buffeted by severe weather after a thunderstorm also struck on Friday afternoon.
The bureau is forecasting more changeable weather in the days ahead with a possible rain and a forecast top of 23 on Sunday and a top of 31 and more rain and a possible thunderstorm on Monday.
