Michael Doltoff's colt Lets Go To Brazil ($10, Todd McCarthy) was electrifying across the closing 100m of the Bathurst Gold Chalice Heat One (2,260 metres) chased down last year's Gold Crown champion College Chapel ($4.60, Bernie Hewitt).
College Chapel was denied the chance to complete the Crown-Chalice double after Roll With Lachlan ($61) took the crucial second place by a short half head.
"He was terrific today and got a great trip into the race," winning driver Todd McCarthy said.
"He didn't really say daylight until the top of the straight but he surprised me with his turn of foot.
"That run will definitely benefit him today and it hasn't knocked him around too much."
There was weaving and dodging to do in the early stages when Wolf Stride galloped out of the second gate and took no competitive part.
The rest of the field made it past the post untroubled and leading the way was College Chapel.
The 2018 Gold Crown winner led the way ahead of Womenwhiskyngold and Major Roll was at the head of the outside line.

Odds-on favourite War Dan Delight was well positioned one out, one back.
No moves came until the turn for home when Major Roll faded from winning contention.
That forced War Dan Delight to work around the death seat runner while College Chapel opened up a two length break on Womenwhiskyngold.
The big challengers with 200m to go were widest finishers Roll With Lachlan and Lets Go To Brazil.
War Dan Delight had every opportunity to run down College Chapel but didn't show the turn of foot the wider pair displayed.
Lets Go To Brazil stormed home across the final 50m to take the four metre win in a 1:57.6 mile rate.
Roll With Lachlan snatched the vital runner-up spot ahead of College Chapel in a photo finish while War Dan Delight was another two metres away in fourth.
