Electric cars are here now, and they're settling in for the long haul. The revolution is coming, and we can either make the most of the enormous opportunities contained in it, or we can sit here, do nothing, and let the moment pass.
All around the world, electric car races are taking off. Formula E (an electric version of Formula 1) events have taken place in Berlin, Beijing, Mexico City and Hong Kong, among other places.
Alternatively, an "all-in" car race could pit the various production cars against each other, from Teslas to Nissan Leafs.

This would be both an opportunity and a contribution to the international car racing scene.
The switch to electric will be a major disruption in the years ahead, similar to the disruption when the motor vehicle first took over from the horse and carriage.
There may always be a place for V8-style racing, but Mount Panorama can add an exciting new event to its annual list.
If we don't do it, someone else will.
