It wasn't one the Bathurst trainer looked back on too fondly either, as Mathew Cahill fell from the saddle midway down the straight when Jetgirl was well-placed.
So when a horse lost its jockey shortly after the KFC Kentucky Dash Benchmark 66 (900m) jumped on Sunday, Mirfin thought the worst.
Thankfully for the Bathurst trainer it wasn't Cahill who fell to the deck and Jetgirl avoided the drama before running down leader Cannizzaro ($51) in the straight and winning by half a length.
Ken Dubar was the jockey who fell early on, coming out of the saddle on Vonnida, but the experienced jockey escaped unscathed.
"She (Jetgirl) did a good job," Mirfin said.
"When the horse lost Kenny in the race I was worried it was her for a second but it wasn't, and it was a great win.
"She's been here once before and lost a rider herself so I was a bit worried. But she's a lovely filly and we thought we had her right for today."

Jetgirl was first-up from a spell on Sunday, having not raced since victory at Dubbo on December 21 last year.
No trial was needed before the Kentucky Dash, with the 900m proving no hassle for the exciting sprinter.
Cahill only just managed to avoid the stumbling Vonnida shortly after the jump, Dunbar having gone from gate one while Jetgirl started in barrier three.
Once Jetgirl was in the clear Cahill gave her a lovely rails run just off the leaders, as the Rodney-Robb trained outside Cannizzaro led the way from Gillie Mooch ($41).
Cannizzaro, ridden by Jake Pracey-Holmes, kicked clear at the top of the straight but Cahill worked Jetgirl into the middle of the track and began his pursuit of the leader.
Jetgirl, having won a benchmark 75 at Dubbo and contested a Highway event in Rosehill in the past, showed her class and mowed down the leader.
The win was Jetgirl's fifth from 13 career starts.
"She's been great for the stable. It's a really good record she's accruing," Mirfin added.
Cannizzaro, previously trained by Jim Jarvis on the north coast, showed plenty of promise for Robb in just his second start for the Nyngan trainer to finish second while the Connie Greig-trained Squared ($12) was third.
