The 48-year-old was arrested after being stopped by police on the Jenolan Caves Road.

Chifley Police District crime manager, Chief Inspector Luke Rankin, said police pulled the driver over at about 10pm and spoke with the man, who is from Oberon, and was the only person in the car.

Chief Inspector Rankin said police will allege that during a subsequent search of the vehicle, they located a quantity of cocaine.

Police will allege the drugs located in the man's car had a street value of around $3000.

Chief Inspector Rankin said the drugs were seized by officers and the man was taken to Lithgow Police Station, where he was later charged with supplying a prohibited drug and possessing a prohibited drug.

Chief Inspector Rankin said the man was conditionally bailed to appear before Lithgow Local Court on May 23.

He said cocaine use in the community is, generally speaking, becoming more common, and while it's not seen as frequently as other drugs such as amphetamines or cannabis, cocaine remains on the radar for authorities.

"The supply and use of cocaine is undoubtedly becoming more prevalent in Bathurst," Chief Inspector Rankin said.

"While police still don't see anywhere near the amount of cocaine as we do other prohibited drugs, we are detecting it [cocaine] more frequently.

"We are also receiving much, much more intelligence about the use and distribution of cocaine in our community."

Chief Inspector Rankin said other Central West commands were also observing a rise in cocaine use.

"Recent significant arrests in Orange flowing from a major drug investigation there, Strike Force Pimm, demonstrate that cocaine has definitely become a policing - and, of course, a public health - issue in our region," he said.
