Dean of the Bathurst All Saints' Cathedral, The Very Reverend James Hodson, said Easter is how Jesus' death and resurrection saw the triumph of life over death.
"What we do in Holy Week is revisit the key moments in the last week of Jesus before his crucifixion," he said.
"We look at how those moments leads from death and defeat to new life."
The death and resurrection of Jesus is crucial to Christian faith.
They believe that if they have faith in Jesus' death and resurrection, they will have eternal life.
And while Jesus' death and resurrection was claimed to have happened some 2000 years ago, The Very Reverend Hodson said it is still relevant in today's society.
"The Easter story touches upon themes that are deeply human," he said.

"We experience many failings in our human existence in certain times, but we hope for something better.
"We can be slaves to many things, like selfishness and consumerism but we may forget to care about others. Caring for others is what I think Jesus was on about."
