I HAVE just spent 14 days in Bathurst Hospital, and without trying to sound trite, it was a pleasure to be there.
Not because of the pain and the discomfort of my condition, not because of the endless blood tests, not for the constant cannula inserts, not for the 3am wake-ups for tests.
The pleasure was the staff. My god, how they work, how they cover every incident of a full hospital, how they never seem to stop no matter what the circumstances.
The constant smiles and the professional attitudes of the nurses and the ancillary staff have to be seen to be believed.
We hear that our health system is in chaos, that the wheels are falling off and that there are always problems.
Let me say that while we have staff of the quality that we do at Bathurst Hospital, we are in good hands.
