One thing that is always a massive hit at the Royal Bathurst Show is animals. From carefully trained competitors to cute and cuddly critters, there are animals everywhere you look. Animals have always played a significant part in rural shows and with this year's show turning back to it's agricultural roots, animals are set to feature heavily.

Cattle are a part of life in regional Australia and accordingly they have been the focus for the 2019 Royal Bathurst Show. This years feature breed of cattle are Speckle Park which originated in Canada. A moderate sized breed, Speckle Park cattle are well known for their distinguishing colour patterns, ability to adapt to different conditions and high quality of meat.
There is a wide range of categories available for cattle producers to enter and with the increase in rain and feed available over the past six months, stewards are looking forward to an increase in the number and quality of entries and remind entrants that there will be a cattle exhibitors and sponsors barbecue on Saturday night during the show.
There will also be strong competition in other competitions as well including sheep, goats, dogs, cats and the always popular poultry section. The horse events always take centre stage at the show with the main arena a spectacle of pony club events, show jumping and dressage, along with a wide variety of other events including barrel racing, bending races and harness displays.
Of course a day at the show would not be complete without a visit to the animal nursery. Each year a wide array of animals are hosted at the Royal Bathurst Show giving young children, and those of us who are just big kids and can't resist a pat or a cuddle, the opportunity to get up close and personal with many creatures including ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, lambs, goats, ponies, and much more.
