The #64 Holden climbed inside the top five before the halfway mark of the race and showed great reliability to give Chris Lillis, Nathan Callaghan and Matthew Holt a podium finish.

The team also claimed victory by more than five laps in Class A2.

"It's pretty good, especially when you think that it's a naturally aspirated Commodore that's just pushed hard throughout the day," Lillis said.

"We had a few hiccups at the start but everyone did what they had to do. The team pulled through and pit stops were perfect so it was a great day."

The team started the day in 11^th but quickly worked their way up to fourth before other cars in the top 10 began to take their first pit stops.

Eventual winners Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey flew out of reach late in the piece while Iain and Grant Sherrin had second place wrapped up barring disaster.

However, the battle for third was intense.

Lillis, Callaghan and Holt then spent the last few hours battling the #21 BMW of David and Geoffrey Russell plus the #14 Mitsubishi of Paul Loiacono and Deiter Holzl.

Callaghan overtook the Russell entry inside the last half hour of racing, after both cars came out almost level following their final pit stops.

"When I came out of the pits I saw the BMW going up the hill and it's nice having to push rather than trying to stop the car from breaking," Callaghan said.

"I was happy I could make up some ground. It was hard racing through the traffic but it was really good fun."

Holt, who built the car, was thrilled with his co-drivers' efforts.

"I've always said that I wanted to do this race with the guys that look after my car, with a car that we've built on our terms here at the 6 Hour, to have a go and see where we come," he said.

"Chris gave me the opportunity and here we are. It's just fantastic."

The team completed 128 laps to see off nearest A2 challengers Anthony Gilbertson and Andrew Mill (eighth overall) by five laps.
