The Wattle Flat Recreation Ground is set to undergo a major revamp thanks to $200,000 worth of funding via the third round of the Federal Governement's Community Sport Infrastructure Program.
Wattle Flat Progress Association president Kirsten Brumby said she was speechless when she found out the day before the announcement.
"We only found out yesterday. I did the ring around and we got such a great turnout," she said.
"We've been trying for three years, trying to get different funds. We really didn't think we were going to be able to do it. We're still a bit of shock, because now we're finally going to be able to get it done."
Funding will go towards removing the existing old dilapidated tennis court surfaces, with a new concrete sub-base to be installed.
This will be followed by a synthetic course surface, which will be suitable for multi-sport use such as basketball, soccer, netball and tennis.
"It's going to be fantastic," Ms Brumby said.
"We've got quite a few new, young families that have moved into the area. Currently, they don't have any place to go on the weekends.
"We've got the cricket pitch and a recreational hall, so we're hoping this will be a bit of a hub."
Calare member Andrew Gee, who made the announcement on Tuesday morning alongside members of the Wattle Flat community and Bathurst mayor Graeme Hanger, said sport is a great way to bring different people together.
"It helps to build community spirit and better connect our country communities," he said.
"I am thrilled to see this funding rolling out to small communities, like Wattle Flat, which will provide an enormous boost to the area.
The news follows Mr Gee's announcement in March that the Wattle Flat Progress Association and Wattle Flat Heritage Lands Manager had received $50,182 through the Federal Government's Stronger Communities Program and the Tackling Tough Times Together Program for village upgrades.
