The funding, worth $400,000, will allow the council to install 27 new cameras in the Bathurst CBD, including 12 fixed cameras and 15 pan-tilt zoom cameras.
Federal member for Calare Andrew Gee made the announcement yesterday, and said the funding would allow for improved safety and crime-prevention in the Bathurst community.
"The night-time economy is flourishing in Bathurst, but unfortunately there is the occasional occurrence of anti-social behaviour that causes problems for local residents and businesses," Mr Gee said.
"By installing this CCTV network, not only will you be able to detect crime but deter it as well."
The funding has been delivered through the federal government's Safer Communities Fund.
With the deliverance of Bathurst's CCTV network set to cost around $650,000, mayor Graeme Hanger said the funding announcement was a generous boost for the project.
"We have to do what we can to make the city safer, and this funding will go a long way towards ensuring our vision for a CCTV network can be fully realised," Mr Hanger said.
"Council has been lobbying for this project for several years, and it will hopefully deter people from engaging in unsavoury behaviour on our streets."
A CCTV network for the Bathurst CBD formed a key part of councilor Alex Christian's campaign to get elected to council in 2017, and he said the funding was an excellent result for Bathurst.
"I've been lobbying hard on behalf of the community for CCTV funding and at last, we've been heard," Cr Christian said.
"Since I've been elected, we've seen the largest safety investments in Bathurst's history and it's fantastic to get this result from the federal government."
The funding will go with the $250,000 that council has already committed to the CCTV network.
In addition, council has approved more than 60 applications for their CCTV Funding Program.
