Council took to Facebook last week to highlight the threats that feral cats pose to native fauna and household cats.
"It is impossible to determine the numbers of feral cats in Bathurst, however they are regularly dropped off at the pound," council's senior ranger Margaret Gaal said.
"In addition, we often receive requests for assistance with feral cats and we commonly come across them in litters."
Ms Gaal said there are numerous ways to differentiate a feral cat from a regular household cat.
"An obvious sign that a cat is feral is the absence of a collar, and it's also important to observe the condition of their fur and whether they're underweight," she said.
"Feral cats will generally be skittish and very afraid of people, so it's also important to observe their behaviour."
Ms Gaal said council rangers scan all captured cats to see if they are someone's lost pet and advises the community to not approach a cat they suspect is feral.
