West, based in Western Australia, contested the Australian Hillclimb Championship at Mt Panorama in 2006 where he defeated the then current British Champion Martin Groves on the last run of the event.
In 2008, again on the last run of the event, he defeated Andrew Howell.
In the run towards this Saturday's Bathurst Light Car Club Hillclimb, it appears West's main rival will be Sydney driver Ron Hay in his Synegy Dallara.
West's last Australian Hillclimb Championship victory was at Mount Panorama in 2008 on the Esses course in a Lola T8750.
The May hillclimb will see West in his new car, a Pilbeam MP82, practicing for the 2019 Australian Championship, which will be held at Mount Panorama from November 1 to 3.
