One story is that a man called Ricky from the Himalayas came to four budding Bathurst musicians and breathed life into them, blessing them with his breath.

Another is that the band members were thinking of a name for their band, wanted the word 'breath' in it and they thought Ricky's Breath sounded cool.

It's hard to tell which one is the true story, but one thing is for sure, Ricky's Breath is set to take to the stage for its first major gig on Friday night at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre.

Formed by four students from the old All Saints' College, Ricky's Breath consists of Charlie Dunn on vocals and lead guitar, Harry Cooke on rhythm guitar, Harley Goodman on the bass and Darnell "Tiberius" Polsen on the drums.

"We're pretty excited to play a small set in front of what should be a big crowd," Goodman said.

The band is expected to play three songs - two originals and one cover.

Influences for Ricky's Breath includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Skegss and the Chats, famous for songs such as Smoko and Pub Feed.

The band members describes Ricky's Breath as an alternative rock band.

Friday's performance will be as the opening set for the Tipsy Scholars, an indie folk band based in Canberra.

Doors open at 7.15pm, with music getting underway at 8pm and tickets can be purchased at the door.

Admit tickets are $20, while tickets cost $10 for pensioners or people 30 years and under.
