The Australian Red Cross mobile blood donation centre will arrive in Bathurst this weekend, ready to collect donations to help keep blood supplies high.
Red Cross Blood Service spokesman John Feist said it was crucial to have a good supply heading into the winter months.
"When you're suffering from a cold or the flu you need to wait until seven days after your symptoms subside before you can donate blood," he said.
"Given we tend to see an increase in people suffering from these illnesses during the winter months, it's important to keep the blood supply strong.
"One in three people will need blood in their lifetime so we need to make sure we have enough donors to meet this need."
Given the blood mobile will only be in Bathurst for a short time, it is essential that people book an appointment with the service ahead of time by calling 13 14 95.
Mr Feist said the centre was almost fully booked for the week the blood mobile is in Bathurst, but there will be more opportunities to donate in June.
"You will need to book in advance and if you're feeling unwell, or don't think you can make your appointment, please let us know so someone else can take your spot," he said.
"On the day of your appointment be sure to drink lots of water and get plenty to eat. If you're nervous just let the donor staff know and they will keep an eye on you.
"Check out our website, donateblood.com.au, for more information on what to expect."
The blood mobile will be at Bathurst McDonalds, in the rear car park, on the following days:
- Saturday 9.30am to 1.30pm
- Monday 12.30pm to 7pm
- Tuesday 9.15am to 1.30pm
- Wednesday 9.15am to 3.45pm
The Red Cross Blood Service will be back in Bathurst at Charles Sturt University (CSU) from June 3 to 5, and again at McDonalds from June 15 to 19.
