He had finished his 30th Variety Bash in 2018 and thought his time in the iconic Chiko Roll Wolseley had come to an end.
"That was it," Mr Lindsell had said. "No more outback adventures."
But a chat with his daughter Elizabeth over Christmas changed all that.
Despite her best efforts last year, Mr Lindsell's daughter was unable to join her father on the drive last year but she hadn't given up hope doing her eighth bash with her father.
"When Elizabeth said she was really disappointed, it got the wheels turning," he said.
Mr Lindsell and his team begin their 2019 Variety Bash journey on Sunday, May 19, with 100 other cars.
Starting and finishing in Newcastle, Mr Lindsell and his daughter, alongside his son Stephen, will visit Bomaderry, Canberra, Wagga Wagga, West Wyalong, Goulburn and St Mary's, bringing fun and donating equipment to schools along the way.
"It's a shorter seven day trip that fits our diaries perfectly," he said.
Simplot Australia, Bathurst Real Estate, Betta Home Living Bathurst, Panthers Bathurst, The Dentral Practice Bathurst and Paul Smith Signs have all donated in one or other to the Variety Bash.
As for Mr Lindsell and his Variety Bash retirement last year?
"John Farnham had a few 'final tours', so why can't I?" he said.
