This week the Majellan Bowling Club was at near capacity for the Tuesday Social Bowls and then a busy weekend with more social events and the Over 60's Zone 4 Senior Triples and throw in a couple of Club Championship games and it was all go. Tuesday, May 14 Social Bowls:
Rink one:
Peter Martin, Rod Luck and John Hobson were too good for Bob Stackenburg, John Davis and Peter Naylor with a close fought match and scores tied on the seventh at five all, Team Hobson took control and came away with the win 23-17.
Rink two:
Troy Swordling, Mick Burke and Tony Hogan had a close match against Tom Beck, Terry Clark and Ray Nealey. Team Hogan dominated in the first 13 ends being at one point eight points in front, Team Nealey fought back to just fall short 20-19.
Rink three:
Darryl Shurmer and Noel Witney fired early against John Banning and Nev Cable. With no loss of the lead for the entire match Team Witney proved too good with a 21-15 win.
Rink four:
Hugh Brennan and Gordon Holland took the early lead and had the match under control until the 11th end against Kevin Howard and Allan Clark. Team Clark had good wins in the back end of the match to take it 26-17.
Rink five:
Frank Farrell and Kerry Connors had the match in the bag early with a comfortable lead of five points by the eighth end. With the opposition firing Jim Clark and Gordon Death had Team Connors on the ropes but Team Connors reigned supreme 21-14.
Rink six:
Barry O'Keefe (Swing Bowler), Ray Minogue and Tim Pickstone lead from the onset to be 11-3 by the seventh end against Barry O'Keefe, Paul Kennedy and Ken Hartwig. The momentum wore off for Team Pickstone after 21 ends out of 25 and Team Hartwig with a handy 12 points in the last ends came away with a stunning victory 29-25.
Saturday, May 18:
Rink three: Zone 4 Senior Triples, round one
Majellan's Kevin Howard, Ken Hartwig and Alan Clark struggled to find good form against Ray Fitzalan, John Archer and Phil Gray. With Bathurst City dominating the match and taking the win 28-10.
Rink two: Zone 4 Senior Triples, round two
Majellan's John Hobson, Tiger Smith and Peter Naylor were no match for Bathurst City's Ray Fitzalan, John Archer and Phil Gray. With Majellan taking the early lead they could not close out the match going down to Bathurst City 26-14.
Rink four: Zone 4 Senior Triples, round two
Majellan's Mick Simmons, Noel Witney and Tony Hogan were far too strong for Orange Country Club's N. Seton, G. Ford and E. Stretton. With a dominating performance Team Majellan came home with an easy win in the end 33-14
Rink five: Major Singles Semi Final
Ryce Harvey and Pat Hogan battled it out over 30 ends with a dominating performance by Ryce Harvey to never lose sight of the lead and take the match 31-26.
Rink 10: Social Game
Trevor Sharpham and Tim Pickstone had to fight for the lead against Tony Press and Mick McDonald who proved they were too good on the day with a comfortable win 24-19.
Rink 11: Social Game
Max Elms, Greg Quartly-Scott and Roger Cooper were too good for Terry James, Hugh Brennan and Ray Minogue. With a closely fought match throughout the game it was the back end of the match that proved the goods for Team Cooper taking the win 22-17.
Sunday, May 19:
Rink two: Zone 4 Senior Triples
Bathurst City's Ray Fitzalan, John Archer and Phil Gray struggled from the on set and never looked comfortable against Mick Simmons, Noel Witney and Tony Hogan who showed how it is done with a commanding performance to win 23-12.
Rink five: Major Pairs
John Hobson and Peter Naylor looked out of sorts against Rhys Harvey and Craig Bush. With Team Naylor only seeing the lead briefly, Team Bush had control of the match which was called on the 20th end 24-15.
With the Pennant's party done and dusted for another year a big thank you goes out to Kevin Howard whose leadership has enabled an average bunch of blokes to do their best.
Good luck to Mick Simmons, Noel Witney and Tony Hogan who will travel to Dubbo on Sunday for the next round of the Senior Triples.
A general reminder, the Brian McIntosh Memorial Day which was due to be played this Sunday has been deferred to a later date.
BATHURST CITY MEN'S BOWLING CLUB

Another busy week for our bowlers with bowls Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with our senior zone representatives John Archer, Phil Gray and Ross James playing at Kahibah near Newcastle. Results of Wednesday Jackpot bowls:
Game one
Ian Cunningham and Gary Hotham 18 defeated Phillip Murray and Bob Lindsay 14.
Ian and Gary took the lead on the second end and were never headed. Phillip and Bob drew level 7-7 on eight ends but five shots to Ian and Gary on the ninth end proved the difference. Phillip and Bob won three of the last four but could not make up the leeway.
Ends to the victors 10-8
Game two
Bob Foster and Pat Duff 17 defeated Barry McPherson and Jack Smith 11.
Bob and Pat led 4-2 after six ends and 8-6 after 12 ends. Scores were level 8-8 after 14 ends in a very close game. The last four ends were somewhat of a scoring frenzy compared to the earlier part of the game with 12 shots scored Barry and Jack scored three shots on the last end but to no avail.
Ends were 9-9.
Game three
John McDonagh and Ray Noonan 33 defeated Arthur Williams and Kevin Miller 15.
John and Ray went on a scoring spree early and led 15-1 after six, they led 30-7 after 12 ends. Arthur and Kevin scored five shots on the last end to reduce the margin to 18 which was the ja Koro winning number.
Ends to the winner 12-6.
Game four
Robert Thomson and Jim Grives 24 defeated Ray Doncant and Alan Clarke 16.
Ray and Allan led 9-4 after six ends. Robert and Jim fought back and reached the lead 11-9 after nine. Score were levelled 11-11 after 11 ends but Robert and Jim won five of the next seven ends to record a good win.
Ends were 9-9.
Friday saw two games of pairs with a visitor from the ACT Graham Reed teaming up with Arch Ledger.
Game one
Arch and Graham 19 defeated John Martin and Gary Hotham eight. Arch and Graham led throughout this game leading 6-2 after six ends, 13-4 after 12 ends and cruised to a comfortable victory of Gary and John.
Ends to winner 12-6.
Game two
Annette and Barry McPherson teamed up against Pam Warren and Denis Oxley but were soundly beaten on the day. Pam and Denis 25 defeated Barry and Annette five. Pam and Denis led all the way in the game, 10-2 after six ends, 17-5 after 12 ends. Things just didn't click for Barry and Annette on the day.
Ends to the victors 14-4.
Saturday Social bowls had a good roll up considering there were six members playing in Zone 4 championships. 22 bowlers contested four games of pairs and one game of triples.
Game one
Ian Schofield, Ron Hollebone and Gary Hotham 24 defeated John McDonagh, John Fulton and Geoff Thorne 16. Team Hotham got a great start winning six of the first seven ends for a 14-2 lead, they had a comfortable lead 21-8 after 14 but Team Thorne won five of the last seven ends but did not catch the Hotham combination.
Ends to Hotham 11-10.
Game two
Hans Hummelshoj and Brian Burke 18 defeated Bob Heffernan and Trevor Kellock 17. Hans and Brian had the better of the starts and led 8-4 after seven ends they led 13-11 after 14 ends. Bob and Trevor score six shots to five over the next seven ends but fell short of one shot.
Ends were ten all.
Game three
Arch Ledger and Bryan Bromfield 18 defeated Robert Lindsay and Barry McPherson 16.
Arch and Bryan led early but Barry and Bob drew level 5-5 after seven ends, led 10-9 after 14 ends but Barry and Bobbie fought back and led 16-10 after 17 ends. Arch and Bryan came back again and levelled the score 16-16 after 21 ends and snatched victory with two shots on an extra end. Ends went to winners 13-9.
Game four
Dan Casters and Mick Sewell 19 defeated Brodie Carter and Ron Cambey 13.
Dan and Mick got the better start to lead after 5-1 after three ends. Brodie and Ron fought back and levelled 6-6 after seven ends. Dan and Mick led 14-9 after 14 ends and held on for a good win over Brodie and Ron. Ends 11-10 to Dan and Mick.
Game four
Bruce Rich and Phillip Murray 17 defeated Paul Rodenhuis and Arthur Williams 15.
Scores 6-5 Bruce and Phillip after seven ends and 13-8 after 14 ends. Paul and Arthur won five of the last seven ends but could not reel in the leaders.
Ends to winner 11-9 and one drawn. We were represented at the Zone 4 triple championship selection playoffs presented championship by Denis Oxley, Paul Reece and Ray Noonan. They were better by three shots by Orange Country Club.
In the seniors Ray Fitzallan, John Archer and Phil Gray lost the selection finals to the Majellan Team of Michael Simons, Noel Whitney and Tony Hogan.
This weekend we will be represented in the Fours semi-finals at Dubbo in both President and Seniors. Denis Oxley, Paul Reece, Denis Harvey and Ray Noonan are in the President Four.
Ray Fitzallan, John Archer, John Finlay and Phil Gray are in the Seniors, we wish them all the best.
