Croker has been one of the most consistent players in the NRL for the past decade and will likely retire as the competition's all-time leading point scorer.

The Blues selection dilemma at right centre is so dire - due to injuries - that coach Brad Fittler has not ruled out picking Brisbane flyer James Roberts out of reserve grade.

Veteran Bulldogs centre Josh Morris' name has also been floated but Croker has been left out of the conversation entirely, despite leading the Raiders to fourth spot after 10 rounds.

Croker has scored 118 tries in 240 games for Canberra and is the third-most accurate goal-kicker (80.96 per cent) in the history of the game.

Hodgson believes Croker's consistency should at the very least have him in Fittler's selection frame for the State of Origin opener on June 5.

"I love him as a player, he always has that team-first mentality, he does a good job for us week in week out, he's really consistent in his game," Hodgson said.

"You hear people getting tossed up in the centres when there's been a few injuries and I was bit surprised his name has not been tossed up.

"He'd do anything for his side and hopefully one day he does get rep honours."

Croker said he'd love to play for NSW and believes Canberra's utility backs Jack Wighton and Nick Cotric are on the cusp of Blues selection.

"It'd be a dream come true, I'd love nothing more than that," Croker said.

"We've got some guys there who have their name in the mix and deservedly so and if I'm one of them I'd be very grateful. I'd be more than happy to get a run, we'll wait and see."

Croker rejected the notion he was rugby league's equivalent of a Sheffield Shield cricketer who has the runs on the board but can't get his hands on a baggy green.

"No, no I don't feel like that at all, I just enjoy playing my footy and how the team is going and the culture we've built here," Croker said.

"If I do get that opportunity I'd take it with both hands and I'm sure I'd be ready to go, but there's a lot of good players there."
