PERHAPS it's because we've all been to school that we all have such strong opinions on anything to do with education.

And perhaps the interest isn even greater in Bathurst than other centres, given education is officially this region's largest industry.
Between all the schools, the university and Bathurst TAFE, we all know plenty of people either studying or working in education.
And the past couple of weeks have seen as much news as ever in this sector, both locally and nationally.
The biggest education story in recent weeks has been the bungled NAPLAN exams that will see thousands of students forced to sit them again this week.
The Western Advocate understands at least two local schools - Bathurst Public School and Denison College Kelso campus - are among the affected schools, creating uncertainty and stress that neither the students, parents nor teachers need.
There are many potential benefits from the NAPLAN exams but they mean nothing if the Australian public cannot have confidence both in the running of the exams and the results they produce.
We can only wish the kids at Bathurst Public and Kelso High that have to re-sit the exams all the best this week and remind them that NAPLAN is just one of the measures of how they're doing at school. Just do your best, no one can ask more than that.
Elsewhere, we are seeing a bit of movement among the leadership at some of Bathurst's high schools.
The Scots All Saints College community gathered last night for the first of what will likely be a number of farewells for inaugural head of college David Gates.
Mr Gates, who has overseen the merger of The Scots School and All Saints' College, will leave the role at the end of term two to be replaced by former Knox Grammar headmaster John Weeks.
He has been a popular leader and has managed to maintain a smile during the often difficult job of bringing two proud schools together under one banner.
At the same time, the search has begun for a new head of college for St Stanislaus' College after Dr Anne Wenham announced last week that this would be her last year at the school.
St Stanislaus' has plenty of time to find a suitable replacement and there is sure to be a strong list of applicants keen to live in the best city in regional NSW and an education hub, to boot.
What more could an educator want?
