CSU were understrength, having only 12 players, with the extra player only joining the game just before half-time, while Eglinton had the courtesy of a full bench.
And from what was witnessed in the game's opening minutes, players and spectators could be excused for thinking the match would be high-scoring.
Two of the game's three goals were scoring in the opening five minutes, with the third and final one scored in the 28th minute mark.
It was a win that Eglinton coach Ian Crook described as "scrappy".
"There was pretty good defence from both teams and it was a bit scrappy, a bit desperate," he said.
"CSU had a few players out, which didn't help their cause with just the one substitute and that wasn't until half-time.
"We didn't play as well as should've, but we'll take the win."
Eglinton opened the scoring within two minutes when an attempted effort from Ashleigh Crook found its way to the feet of Jasmine Rae, who put her side in front.
But only two minutes later, a fantastic effort from Vixens midfielder Emily Thurlow had the game tied at 1-all, after her effort from outside the box went sailing over goal keeper Darby Elms' head and into the goal.
Two minutes later, down the other end of the field, Tayla Slaterry was unlucky for Eglinton when her effort came of the crossbar. Eileen Cosgrove pounced on the scraps, but her effort went straight at CSU goal keeper Bridie Gordon.
On the 18th minute mark, Jade Oakes was given a yellow card for dissent and the 11-women Vixens were down to 10, with no one on the bench.
However, the Vixens were able to hold during Oakes 10-minute ejection but when she came back on, Rae scored her second and Eglinton had a 2-1 advantage.
But that was the last score of the game.
Teams traded chances throughout the rest of the half, but for the majority of it, the game was played in the midfield as both sides vied for possession.
One CSU player was lucky not to escape with a yellow card just before half-time, when Eglinton's Kaitlyn Kennedy copped a high foot.
The Vixens had the first real chance of the second-half, as Kelly Baker forced a diving save from the Eglinton goal keeper.
And when they had another chance on the 61st minute mark, Vixens' Julia Koko voiced her frustration when she squandered a chance to equalise at 2-all.
The game did, however, feature some late drama, but not in the way you might imagine.
Eglinton made a clearing kick which happened to hit the referee in his nether regions.
The moment was applauded by both benches and after a shot delay, the referee, who was back on his feet, resumed proceedings with a drop ball before blowing full time moments later, securing Eginton's fourth win of the season.
The result also keeps the second-place Eglinton four points clear of CSU.
Sunday's result was sweet redemption for Eglinton, who blew a 3-0 lead against CSU earlier in the season, before the Vixens clawed back to claim a 4-all draw.
