There are some fabulous music performances from a range of genres, with something to suit everyone;
On Friday, June 14, Peter Coleman-Wright and Nexas Quartet present Composers in Exile.
Helpmann and Green Room Award-winning baritone, Peter Coleman-Wright has appeared on stage at London's Royal Opera Covent Garden, New York's Metropolitan Opera and in Australia in roles with major opera and musical theatre companies.
He explains: "I wrote the show to be both informative and to explore and expose how rich the musical life and repertoire was from the Weimar period, and how varied and marvellous it is."
ALSO MAKING NEW IN WHAT'S ON:
The Nexas Quartet consists of four virtuoso saxophonists: Michael Duke (soprano saxophone), Andrew Smith (alto saxophone), Nathan Henshaw (tenor saxophone) and Jay Barnes (baritone saxophone).
They have been described as "utterly startling ... adrenaline fuelled" (Limelight Magazine) and since their formation in 2002 have performed in settings as diverse as the Australian Festival of Chamber Music (Townsville), the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and the Sydney Opera House.
They are passionate about promoting the musical diversity of the saxophone and showcasing its immense versatility and cross-genre appeal.
"Audiences can expect to hear wonderful music with a different soundscape," says Peter.
"The show is informative but highly entertaining and very accessible to everyone."
The show is informative but highly entertaining.
- Peter Coleman-Wright
The program includes the musical theatre hits of Weill, the cabaret of Stolz and Eisler alongside political songs of the Weimar period. In performance it is a journey from Berlin and Vienna to New York and beyond, following the composers into their defiant yet often hopeful exile.
