Visitors could view the collection of minerals, as well as take part in a range of activities.
There was a jumping castle, face painting and fun activities designed for children, while more advanced patrons could hear talks from Ross Pogson, from the Australian Museum, and Warren Somerville.
Bathurst Regional Council's museums coordinator Emma McLean said it was a busy weekend for the fossil museum, with the launch of the collection coinciding with the June long weekend.
The Chapman collection will be in Bathurst for more than a year, meaning people will have plenty of opportunities to view 570 different minerals.
