The Luke Hilton-trained Written In Vain ($8) led all the way in the Bathurst RSL Club Benchmark 66 Handicap (1,400 metres) too hold off Funky Music ($8) and Burden Of Proof ($9.50).

Apprentice jockey Duggan picked up her second win on the Written Tycoon mare in her seventh ride.

Duggan said the race tactics couldn't have played out much better for her on the soft Tyers Park turf.

"That's how she always races. She hasn't got any turn of foot so from the half-mile you have to make every post a winner," she said.

"I just kept clicking her over, increasing and increasing the speed and she got the job done. She's a very consistent horse.

"She's strong and carries weight. She's won with 61kg on her back before. Because she carries weight well Luke can keep placing her well where she gets away with a lot of weight but not so much tough competition."

Hilton's top weight began well from barrier two and got herself into an early battle for the lead with Caliera Gem.

Written In Vain comfortably held her lead while Caliera Gem settled a length and a half behind.

At the 800m Arrondissement worked up to the outside of Written In Vain but Duggan wasn't wiling to turn back the pace, opening up a small break on the challenger as the field entered the turn.

Written In Vain continued to battle on down the home straight as Funky Music started to claw back ground directly behind her and Burden Of Proof made a charge from further out wide.

Funky Music would have had the race won with another 50 metres to run but Duggan had timed her all-the-way lead to perfection.

The Matthew Smith-trained Funky Music finished a length away while a further length behind Burden Of Proof beat out favourite Harry New Shoes ($3.30) for third.

All five of Written In Vain's career wins have come over the 1,400m.

In the following race, the Bathurst Toyota Country Class 2 Plate (1,100m), Paul Theobald's Bel Blaster ($21) produced a stunning upset ahead of fellow Bathurst-trained runner Alcatran ($1.85, Dean Mirfin).

Bathurst success began in the opening race of the meeting when Peter Stanley's Abraded ($2.30 favourite) saluted in the Central West Electrical CG&E Maiden Handicap (1,200m) in a photo finish.

Slatey Bay ($3.90) appeared to have got the favourite's measure before Abraded hit back under the guidance of Grant Buckley.
