Zachariah David Potter, 25, of Gibsone Drive in Kelso, appeared before Bathurst Local Court on two charges: possession of a prohibited weapon and failing to have an approved interlock device on his car.
The court heard Potter works as a fitter and turner and holds a class C licence with a current interlock condition imposed.
Potter was driving along Ashworth Drive at 10.30am on April 30 when police noticed he appeared to be travelling in the centre of the road, according to the police facts.
Police conducted a U-turn and followed Potter's vehicle. They say the vehicle stopped at a red light and Potter took his foot off the brake and, on a number of occasions, allowed the car to jerk forward by placing his foot on and off the brake, as indicated by the illumination of the rear tail lights.
When the traffic lights turned green and Potter headed west, police activated their warning lights and indicated for Potter to stop.
Potter produced his driver's licence and police noted the interlock condition and asked if the car was fitted with an interlock device, according to the police facts. Potter said it wasn't.
Police asked if Potter knew the conditions on his licence and he said he did.
Officers told Potter he would be searched in relation to drugs and weapons.
He was asked to declare any items of interest and he said he had nothing to declare. He was searched and a pair of knuckledusters was found in his trouser pocket.
According to the police facts, he told officers he had picked the knuckledusters up before he had left the house because his girlfriend didn't want them in the house. He said he was going to ask a few people if they knew who owned them.
For being an interlock licence holder who did not have an approved device installed, Potter was convicted and fined $500.
For possessing a prohibited weapon, he was convicted and fined $250.
