While the students quite often showcase the most technical aspects of circus artistry, some of them also fill a role by being part of the landscape of the festival.
One of those students for Ignite the Night on Saturday was Charlotte Cosgrove, who said she would be "roaming, interacting with kids and just creating the atmosphere of the winter festival".
It wouldn't be a stretch to think that it can be quite daunting having passersby stop you to get a photo, but the 15-year-old said that wasn't the case.
She explained that she felt like one of the performers she's seen at big events before.
"It's quite cool to play their part and see little kids come up to us," she said.
Ms Cosgrove has been with Cirkus Surreal for four years and said she loves that the troupe is always invited back to be part of the entertainment at the festival.
"It's amazing. It's great to know that they want us back and that we are doing a good job," she said.
